This is the second year we flew the Skyvan
photoship for all the aerial fun in Florida. We’ve learned a lot
from last year, and so our preparation for this edition went super smooth.
To be fully flexible we operated the photoship out of Bartow, an amazing
place with amazing people!! AND the restaurant was back open, so nobody
had to starve.
We were blessed with 5 days of fantastic flying weather, only the mornings
were plagued a bit by fog but once that was cleared we were all ready
to go. And ready we were as an incredible schedule was awaiting us. We
started with an incredible opportunity right away to get the aerial view
of C-47 ‘Tico Belle’ 99% fully restored with D-Day markings.
The USAF had given approval for the F-35 and F-16 join-up, the main reason
for us to start flying on Monday as both jets would come in this day.
It were two jets for sure, beautifully decorated with the American banner,
but both were F-35 as the F-16 had a mechanical and would only arrive
well after dark. The F-35 demo jet also flew the well-known ‘Heritage
Flight’ formation for us. |

Next for this day was the CAF Tampa Bay wing with
two real gems: their Pt-19 is very striking colors and the Commander once
called officially ‘Air Force One’ as it used to be the aircraft
of Ike Eisenhower. The nicest moment was when they both flew a unique 2-ship
formation for us. What a way to start our Florida adventure. |

First for Tuesday was the large T-34 mentor
formation, this year they brought us 12 aircraft in 1 formation set up
with smoke, only in the USA we get to see such an opportunity.
Our next guest behind the Skyvan was the Mig-17 flown by Tony Remudo.
In authentic Cuban Air Force colors, we should count it now as a new Air
Force on our #66 long list! Another highlight to see in front of our camera’s. |

Later that afternoon the A-26 Invader arrived
at SUN ‘n FUN, again a highlight ( like literally every aircraft we
got to photograph ) as only two of those are still airworthy today in the
entire world. Striking bare metal livery and slow turning propellors, lovely
challenge!!! |

Our sunset flight started with the P-51 ‘Gunfighter’,
one of the more famous Mustangs that was also part of the lineup last year.
We flew the join up in the ‘worst’ weather we would have for
the week… but it made up for that incredible shot with the rainbow
in it. Mark Ruff brought us a 2-ship you will not see every day. A Piper
600 and one of the popular private jets, the S-211, they did fit really
well together in the warm sunset light! |

Luck was on our side as well, because the demo F-16 did arrive
in time for the opening flybys of the SUN ‘n FUN concert. All FEMA
in the Viper and Mach in the F-35 had to do was take off 20 minutes early
to super please all the photographers with a fantastic photomission. That
colors of the original YF-16 prototype look absolutely stunning, I think
we made an ICAS calendar photo here! |

The biggest priviledge we got was the opportunity
to capture aerial images of the Jack Aces team, flying 3 P-51 Mustangs.
The weather could not have been more perfect for this occasion with a
pink, orange and yellow sky interrupted by some dark clouds and rain showers…
truly amazing!
Wednesday was going to be a relaxed day with an L-39 on the program…
that turned out to be the biggest ‘cool beans’ surprise we
will pull off this year. The legendary TF-104 Starfighter filled us with
immense pleasure and thousands of photos were taken when it buzzed by
the Skyvan several times. What an incredible machine, 60 years old with
more charisma then any modern jet. A most memorable moment! There is a
separate report online for all the F-104 lovers to enjoy. |

Wednesday evening is the first of two night shows
at SUN ‘n FUN, so we could not fly for them, but instead we took the
Skyvan to Jack Browns Seaplanes. The photomission started with Thom Richard
in his newly restored WildCat, flying with the cockpit open and with authentic
WW II flightgear!! We had hoped to get 3 Seaplanes from the folks based
at Winter Haven… and we got 4, all in one formation!! Talking about
flying skills to get them together in one photos, but they all aced it,
and once again we were able to take fantastic and unique photos in the setting
sun. |

Thursday started with a flying boat as well,
when we had the chance to intercept the Grumman Mallard. With the fluffy
clouds in the sky and the lakes beneath us, we could have not wished for
a better backdrop to see this wonderful machine floating behind us, great
livery too!
Now we have done almost every jet type we could expect in a realistic
way behind the photoship, but there is always the challenge of adding
another one. Not what you might expect, no jetfighter, but a glider with
two jet engines!! Bob Carlton proved to us it does look pretty badass,
especially when he activated the two large smoke trails, and so yes that
really was a new jet type for us. |

From one jet we went to another one, slight bigger,
as we eagerly awaited the arrival of the Marines F-35C, the best looking
of all F-35s. In the photos you can really see the size difference, the
immense wings and landing gear ‘Exotic’ brought his jet really
close to the Skyvan, so we all could enjoy the wide angle pictures and the
sound, we do have the best hobby in the world! |

Our sunset photomission would take us for the
first time overhead Lakeland, home of the SUN ‘n FUN airshow. After
the flying displays the airspace was open for us, and it’s always
cool for the airshow team to produce some photos and videos that have the
actual venue in the background. First up was our friend Nathan Hammond flying
his ‘Ghostwriter’ AND the supportplane Piper Senaca for what
had to be an unusual family portrait… aced it! |

More famous aerobatic pilots line up with
Melissa Burns, flying the Extra, and Skip Stewart in his Prometheus for
a series of solo poses and 2-ships. When we passed overhead the airfield
it must have been quite a view from the ground up, and from our position
we could see all 2000 airplanes in a single view! As our final guests
for the day was the Redline Team, they decided to fly also a 4-ship for
us with Skip and Melissa, before releasing the pyro for their own photosession.
Final day Friday started early… yea we have to be ready to suffer
a bit, but it’s the only way if you want to make good use of that
15 minutes of special sunrise light. And we got it, together with 4 Harvard
and a T-28, coming as a formation and solo. |

The biggest ‘bad luck’ of this project
was for the ‘Legacy Flight’ of the US Navy. The plan was to
fly with the Mustang, Corsair, Growler and F-35C with the aim to make an
ICAS calendar photo. Unfortunately the Growler arrived too late the day
before ( crew rest regulation prevented them from participating ) and the
Mustang had a mechanical shortly after takeoff. But the Corsair –
flown by Jim Tobul – and F-35C flown again by ‘Exotic’
delivered and awesome private airshow for us. We got to see so many amazing
photo opportunities during this shoot, for sure we have that ICAS calendar
picture in the books! |

More jets for us, as also the guys flying just for fun in
their private aircraft singed present like they did last year. This time
they brought us one S-211 and 2 L-39, including the one in Israeli camouflage
that had a mechanical in 2024. For sure it does look very attractive. This
was another photomission that defined what we love to do so much: flying
the Skyvan photoship for photographers from around the world and pilots
that are just as pumped as we are to produce an awesome result with solo
join ups, 2-ships and 3-ship formation. |

Always surprises in an Aviation PhotoCrew project,
and while we already delivered all the goodies AND the TF-104 Starfighter,
we had one more ‘L-39’ on the schedule… that looked a
lot more like two A-10 Thunderbolts in reality!! With the final years coming
so close now, every opportunity to see a real A-10 is one we have to take.
Awesome flying by ‘Queen’ and his wingman… COOL BEANS! |

The final photomission was again in the sunset
overhead Lakeland. Due to the very busy departure fly out we did miss a
few of the planned aircraft ( with yet another surprise in the shape of
the Growler!!! ) but still very happy with the lineup. A newly restored
Bearcat opened the private airshow for us followed by the famous Mike Goulian
in his bright yellow Extra. |

 |
 |
 |
More aerobatic fun and smoke came to us with the T-6 from
Jeff Shetterly, creating a 2-ship with RJ Gritter on the spot! A second
photo join up with the immaculate A-26 Invader, this time in the evening
light made the aircraft ‘shine’ so much more. With super experienced
pilot Doug Rozendaal in the co-pilot seat, she also came in for a few fabulous
close-up shots. |

The ‘grand finale’ was a challenge, as we had
3 aircraft with not the usual 1 crucial point ( fly the planned maneuvers
& poses ) but three!! Fly the formation of Bob Carlton in the Jetglider,
Nathan Hammond in the Super Chipmunk and Kyle Fowler in the EZ in the perfectly
aligned formation, at the perfect time in the setting sun, at the perfect
moment overhead the SUN ‘n FUN festivities… and light the fireworks!!!
What do you think, did the guys do it all right? |
 |
 |
 |
 |
If not, we already have our first challenge for
SUN ‘n FUN 2026!! It was an absolute blast for us, a 1000 ‘THANK
YOU ALL’ goes to all the pilots who flew for us, the great folks at
Bartow airfield and the entire SUN ‘n FUN team. A special shout out
to Ricardo von Puttkammer for all the help in making our second photoflying
week for SUN ‘n FUN such a massive success! |
