YES… we did have the B-1B, as a total
surprise for all the photographers onboard the Skyvan photoship. Even
our photodirectors did not know that the Wildcat would not be a Wildcat,
but a real Boner!!! That’s the way we love to surprise everyone,
in each project we try to hide a few ‘cool beans’!
Pacific Airshow will be remembered unfortunately for the biggest aerial
event with all the bad luck in the world… 4 days in a row. Situated
along the coast not far from Los Angeles, it’s not unusual to have
the marine fog layer coming in but normally it clears off by 10am…
not this time, and so most of the airshow itself could not take place. |

We were very privileged that ‘up there’
we could enjoy a perfect blue sky and dozens of incredible aircraft to
join us for our annual Hollywood style extravaganza. Traditionally we
fly with a lot of local stars, aircraft that are very worthwhile photographing
in the air ( well, that is actually EVERY flying machine ) but do not
perform in the airshow. This year we were spoiled by Jason Karlin, CEO
of Paragon Airways. Not only did he fly his magnificent blue T-6, but
we got the opportunity to catch several of his business jets. We got a
chance to see very unique formations of a classic Citation Encore jet
teaming up with the new Citation X… and the T-6.
And we did it all again in the sunset! Two phenomenal photomissions
to set the mood. Also the airshow brought us a classic Bizz jet with a
Gulfstream G4. |

You gotta love that sunset in California,
and so we got another go with the blue T-6, this time accompanied by the
T-33 from ‘Wired’, a very popular airshow act in North America.
Despite the fact that the airshow was plagued by that terrible and persistent
fog, a number of airshow performers were able to make it to the Skyvan.
Weirdly enough, only a few miles inland we had good VFR conditions and
so we could easily fly in and out of John Wayne airport, which is also
the airport of operation for the civilian airshow acts. Very happy to
welcome the MiniJet from Torrey Ward and the Albatross grabbing the chance
for some 2-ship photos as well. |

The P-51 Mustang ‘Wee Willy II’ came
out to play with us and look… there is a first ‘cool beans’
machine, as the F-22 Raptor closed in on the photoship. This is the last
season of demopilot Razz, so we took plenty of photos for our aviation pleasure!
We would be more lucky as the F-22 also joined us for a second photo join
up the day after, this time even popping some flares. |

The US Navy and Marines are very supportive of
the Aviation PhotoCrew projects, and once again we had the honor and big
smiles on our faces to welcome the very best of them. The Navy brought us
the impressive F-18 Super Hornet from the West Coast demoteam, while the
Marines took both their F-35C jets up in the sunset for an incredible phototime. |

On Friday morning we were gonna fly with the
Wildcat, and tack sharp on time there it was… the giant shape with
swing wings coming from Edwards AFB. Later we learned that they had a small
technical issue that was solved while ready on the runway, hail to those
mechanics!!! The B-1B gave us 35 minutes of super excitement and probably
the biggest adrenaline rush we could give to the aviation photographers
who joined us in the project. What an incredible aircraft to see. We definitely
need more Boner fun next year! |

Saturday is the day we fly out to our friends
at Camarillo, for a day with the warbirds of the CAF SoCal Wing. Being
creative, we tried some new aircraft from last year and so the juicy line
up was: Navion, Blue & white T-6 Texan, Mig 17, Zero and the PBJ. |

Due to the same foglayer over the ocean we flew over a different
area, but that was definitely an extra as it was a fantastic backdrop. Of
course we got to see again some unique formation with the Navion and T-6
flying together, and the incredible view of the Zero and PBJ in the same
picture. |

A most successful second edition of Pacific Airshow
photoflights in the books… but wait, as it happens – by very
lucky coincidence – the worldfamous B-29 ‘DOC’ was flying
out of Camarillo that same weekend!!! And oh yes, we got to fly with her
AND offered all the photographers a FREE photoflight on the Sunday. Another
unbelievable highlight in an already spectacular 2024 season. The photomission
with DOC deserves its own report that you can enjoy here on the website. |
